Messias Tawny Port 0.375L

The Messias Tawny Port presents itself with a brick-red color and smells elegantly of blackberries, plums, spices, vanilla, and a light woody note. In taste, the palate experiences a variety of elegant, mineral nuances with a fresh sweetness. The light oxidative note of this barrel-aged port wine positively supports the enjoyment and softens the sweetness in its intensity. A wonderfully long finish ends this tasteful firework of aromas.

Port wine is produced from the typical grape varieties of the Douro Valley, which are often still planted in a field blend. Above all, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz (= Tempranillo), Tinto Cão, and Tinta Barroca grow here on granite and slate soils in terraced vineyards along the Douro. The mash fermentation in the lagares is stopped at approx. 7% vol. alcohol by adding 77% wine distillate. The timing of the stopping determines the remaining residual sugar, i.e., the sweetness of the port wine. Subsequently, the port matures for at least 2 years in the barrel; depending on the quality level, even up to 6 years. As a final product, the port wine has an alcohol content of 19-22% vol. and is therefore long-lasting.
