Marimar Mas Cavall's Dona Margarita

The Dona Margarita from the Marimar Estate winery is a red wine with character from the Russian River Valley in Sonoma – despite the name "Mas Cavalls" (Catalan for "horse paddock"), it is clearly rooted in the New World, with the signature of a winemaker who has never forgotten her roots in Catalan wine culture.

Marimar Torres, sister of Miguel Torres, founded the winery in 1986 in the cool Don Miguel Vineyard in Sebastopol. The vineyards benefit from the maritime influence of the Pacific – long, cool summers and even ripening. The Doña Margarita line is dedicated to the winemaker's mother and stands for more powerful, terroir-true red wines from the winery.

Deep ruby to garnet red in the glass. On the nose, raspberry jam, sweet ripe blueberry, and black currant – underneath are earthy, spicy notes of moss and forest floor, which give the wine an almost Burgundian down-to-earth quality. Round and complex on the palate: ripe fruit meets spice and firm, yet gently integrated tannin. The finish is long and promises further development potential.

Recommendation: Serve at 16–18 °C. Pairs with braised lamb loin, duck breast with plum sauce, or mature Manchego. Ready to drink now, but also suitable for cellar aging for a few years.
