Librandi Ciro Rosso Classico DOC
The Cirò Rosso Classico from Librandi shows what Calabria can do: a red wine made from 100% Gaglioppo grapes that impresses with its smoothness and southern warmth, without becoming heavy.
Librandi is one of Calabria's most influential wineries. Since the 1950s, the family has cultivated Gaglioppo in the Cirò Marina DOC zone on the Ionian coast – one of the oldest grape varieties in southern Italy, considered the wine of Olympic champions in antiquity. The approximately 230 hectares of vineyards on red, mineral-rich clay soil and the Mediterranean climate with its dry summers give Gaglioppo its distinctive character.
In the glass, the wine shines a deep ruby red. The nose offers ripe blackberry, dried fig, and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, it is full-bodied with soft tannins, subtle spice, and a finish with notes of prune and leather. The acidity is present but well-integrated.
Serving suggestion: Best served between 16 and 18 °C. Pairs well with hearty pasta dishes (such as sugo al ragù or 'Nduja), grilled lamb, or mature pecorino cheese. Drink now.
