Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri DOC

Bolgheri is home to some of Italy's most ambitious red wines — and Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia shows what the terroir of this Tuscan coastal region can achieve even beyond the flagship wine. As the so-called second wine of Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, it is created from the final assemblage of selected barriques, with grapes from the estate's younger vineyards setting the tone.

In the glass, a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated wine appears with dark fruit — blackberry, black currant — as well as hints of cedar wood and a touch of graphite, as is typical for the Bolgheri terroir. Barrique aging gives the wine structure and a soft, integrated layer of tannins without masking the fruit. The finish is medium-long, spicy, and carried by a pleasant freshness.

Le Serre Nuove is more accessible and supple than Ornellaia itself — that is exactly what makes it so useful at the table. Serve at 15–16 °C, and combine it with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, braised rack of lamb, or a spicy hard cheese like Pecorino stagionato.
