La Rioja Alta 904

The 904 Gran Reserva from La Rioja Alta is one of the classic reference wines of Rioja — a Tempranillo-dominated red wine with a small proportion of Graciano, which has stood for the style of the house for decades: mature, complex, and meant to be drunk without haste.

La Rioja Alta was founded in 1890 in Haro, in the heart of the Rioja Alta region. The winery is one of the most traditional bodegas in the area and remains family-owned to this day. The 904 matures for approximately four years in the winery's own American oak barrels—a decision that gives the wine its characteristic profile: the Graciano grape contributes freshness and structure, while the extended barrel aging adds depth and complexity.

In the glass, the 904 displays aromas of dark cherry, dried herbs, and a hint of mint, underpinned by vanilla and balsamic notes from the oak aging. The tannins are fine-grained and well-integrated, while the acidity provides structure. The finish is long and slightly spicy, with a pleasant bitterness lingering on the aftertaste.

Pairs well with braised lamb loin, Ibérico ham, or mature Manchego cheese. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. If you have an open bottle, decant the wine for at least 30 minutes.

La Rioja Alta

La Rioja Alta, SA – behind this name lies one of the most venerable names in Spanish winemaking. For over 130 years, people have worked here with a clear philosophy: patience is not a luxury, but the foundation for great wine. The winery is located in the heart of the Rioja Alta and has never been driven by trends. Instead, they focus on long barrel aging, hand-picked grapes, and a deep understanding of their vineyards. The result? Wines you won't forget – with red fruits, delicate spices, and a velvety warmth that lingers on the palate. Sustainability is not just a buzzword, but a lived practice: Viña Alberdi was recently awarded Sustainable Wine Product of the Year – proof that tradition and responsibility go hand in hand. Four wineries, four regions – from Rioja to the Rías Baixas. But no matter where you look: the same care, the same passion.
