Kavalan Peatist Oloroso Sherry Cask 58.6% vol Taiwanese Whisky 0.7L

The Kavalan Peatist Oloroso Sherry Cask is a peated single malt from Taiwan that does not put smoke in the foreground, but uses it as a counterpart to the fruit. It is bottled as a single cask at cask strength with 58.6% ABV, without the addition of coloring.

With the Peatist series, Kavalan reinterprets the peat style under subtropical conditions. The whisky matures in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks from the Sherry Triangle and is tailored to Taiwan's climate. In the glass, it appears mahogany-colored.

On the nose, smoky peat, pineapple, and mango meet toffee, roasted plums, and figs, along with fresh herbs. On the palate, citrus and buttery toffee combine with dried pineapple, black dates, and candied plums, accompanied by cinnamon and clove. The finish is long and warming with chocolate, coffee, and nut.

Best enjoyed neat in a nosing glass, at cask strength preferably with a few drops of water. A whisky for a quiet evening, also with dark chocolate.
