Kavalan Peatist Ex-Bourbon 55.6% vol Taiwanese Whisky 0.7L

A peated single malt from Taiwan that does not push smoke to the foreground, but uses it as a fine accompaniment to cask and fruit. The Peatist Ex-Bourbon Cask from Kavalan matures in American ex-bourbon casks and is bottled as a single cask at cask strength, at 55.6% ABV and without the addition of coloring.

Kavalan distills in Taiwan and tailors the maturation to the island's subtropical climate. Peated barley is used for the Peatist series. Peat serves here as a style-defining element, not as an end in itself.

Honey-gold in the glass. On the nose, subtle peat, accompanied by ripe mango, banana, and longan, as well as coconut cream, vanilla, and honey. Smooth on the palate, with vanilla butter cake, tropical fruits, and warm wood notes; the smoke note remains cleanly integrated. The finish is long and soft, with lingering warmth and light smokiness.

Recommendation: drink neat, preferably with a few drops of water, which further open up the fruit profile. A whisky for a quiet evening and for those who prefer their smoke finely dosed.
