Jaboulet Chevalier de Stérimberg Hermitage AOP

The Chevalier de Stérimberg is one of the great white Hermitages – a wine that combines power and finesse in a rare balance and easily gains ten to twenty years in the bottle.

Paul Jaboulet Aîné has been one of the most significant houses of the northern Rhône Valley for generations. The Hermitage hill – one of the most famous single vineyards in France – provides Marsanne and Roussanne from old vines on granitic-loamy soils here. The name refers to Gaspard de Stérimberg, a knight who built a hermitage on this very hill in 1235 after a crusade.

A deep golden yellow appears in the glass. The nose opens with white peach, beeswax, and acacia blossom, underneath a mineral core of wet slate. Voluminous on the palate, with an oily texture that embeds the lively acidity well. The finish is long, slightly nutty – typical for aged Marsanne.

Serving recommendation: Serve between 12 and 14 °C. Pairs with lobster with butter sauce, sweetbreads, or a ripe Comté.
