Hermitage La Maison Bleue Paul Jaboulet Ai
The Hermitage La Maison Bleue from Paul Jaboulet Aîné comes from one of the most famous hills of the Rhône — and you can feel that immediately in the glass: dark fruit, spice, depth.
Paul Jaboulet Aîné is one of the most traditional wineries in the northern Rhône Valley. Since 1834, the family—now under the management of the Frey family—has been producing wines from the granite terroir of the Hermitage hill near Tain-l'Hermitage. La Maison Bleue is the estate's more approachable cuvée, made from 100% Syrah, and showcases the typical style of the appellation: powerful yet structured.
In the glass, a deep cherry black with violet reflections. The nose opens with ripe black cherries, blackberry, and a hint of peony. Underneath lie dark spices—black pepper, a touch of cardamom—and a subtle hint of olive tapenade, typical of Syrah from granite. On the palate, powerful, with dense but well-integrated tannins and a long, spicy finish.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with braised lamb loin, wild boar ragout, or a mature Époisses. If desired, age for another two to four years – the tannins will soften, the aromas will become more complex.
