Herzschlag Cabernet Sauvignon

The Herzschlag is the entry point into the world of red wines at Bergdolt-Reif & Nett — a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Palatinate that shows what the region can do with this grape variety: structure, depth, and yet great drinkability.

Bergdolt-Reif & Nett is one of the most renowned wineries in the Palatinate. The family cultivates vineyards around Duttweiler and Ruppertsberg on sandy loam and limestone — soils that give the Cabernet Sauvignon both warmth and minerality. The climate of the Palatinate, one of the warmest wine-growing regions in Germany, ensures that the grape variety ripens fully here and shows no green astringency.

In the glass, the wine glows in a deep ruby red. Aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry are at the forefront, accompanied by a hint of dark plums and fine spice. On the palate, it presents itself as dry, with well-integrated tannins and a fresh structure that keeps the finish lively.

Served at 16–18 °C, it pairs well with pan-seared beef steak, lamb chops with rosemary, or a hearty pasta ragù. It also cuts a fine figure for an uncomplicated evening with good friends and a wooden board with hard cheese.
