Merlot dry III Tradition

The Merlot dry III Tradition from Bergdolt-Reif & Nett proves just how well this grape variety thrives in the sun-drenched Palatinate. A red wine with clear contours that combines power and elegance without feeling heavy.

The family winery from Duttweiler is one of the most reliable addresses in the region. The vines for this wine grow on deep soils that give the Merlot its typical fullness and juiciness. The Tradition line stands for the classic style of the estate: the gentle aging in wooden barrels gives the wine the necessary backbone and a fine spice, while always keeping the clear fruit profile in the foreground.

In the glass, it shows a dark ruby red. On the nose, aromas of ripe plum, black cherry, and a hint of dark chocolate combine with subtle roasted notes. On the palate, it presents a medium body, velvety tannins, and a fine acid structure that ensures a lingering, juicy finish.

Serve this wine best at 16–18 °C. It is an excellent accompaniment to hearty braised dishes such as pot roast, a spicy lamb ragout, or a classic lasagna with aged Parmesan.

Weingut Bergdolt-Reif & Nett

Five generations, one place: Duttweiler in the Palatinate. The Bergdolt-Reif & Nett winery has deep roots here – the historic sandstone vaulted cellar dates back to 1838, and some of the wines still mature in it today. At the same time, the winery opened a new building in 2017 that shows where the journey is heading: creative, independent, without a template.

Since Christian Nett began helping to steer the ship in the early 2000s, the range has been anything but predictable. Clear wines of origin from the Palatinate stand alongside so-called concept wines, where an idea dictates the style. Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, and Merlot show that the Palatinate is capable of more than the expected.
