GD Vajra Barolo Ravera

Ravera is considered one of the great vineyard sites of Barolo – and GD Vajra is among the wineries that consistently exploit this potential. The Barolo Ravera demonstrates why this vineyard in Novello stands for elegance and depth.

The Vajra family has been cultivating their vineyards in Barolo since the 1970s, now in its second generation under Aldo and Milena Vajra. The winery employs traditional methods: long maceration periods and aging in large wooden casks ( botti grandi ). The Ravera vineyard lies on clay-marl soils, which give the Nebbiolo its characteristic combination of structure and aromatic finesse.

In the glass, the wine displays the classic garnet red of Nebbiolo with an orange rim. The nose offers aromas of sour cherry, dried rose, and a hint of tar – typical of the variety, but with the floral lightness that characterizes Ravera. On the palate, present yet silky tannins, lively acidity, and a long finish with notes of licorice and a mineral aftertaste.

Drinking recommendation: Drink from 2026 onwards, potential until 2040+. Decanting recommended (at least 1 hour). Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs well with braised beef shoulder, venison ragù with pappardelle, or mature Parmigiano Reggiano.

Vajra

GD Vajra from Piedmont makes wines that don't need to be loud – and that's precisely what makes them special. It all began with a childhood dream: Aldo Vaira spent his weekends in Barolo, far from the city, and fell in love with the land. A passion that changed his life. Today, the Vaira family runs the winery together – parents, children, a true unit. They have been farming organically since 1972. Not as a trend, but because they love and understand their land: it takes time, dedication, and respect. You can taste that in every glass – whether in the elegant Barolo or the fresh Dolcetto. Vajra stands for wines with depth and character that don't overwhelm you, but touch you.
