Freyburg Edelacker White Burgundy GG

Pinot Blanc from the Saale-Unstrut region rarely shows as much substance as it does here: The Freyburg Edelacker from Pawis is a Grosses Gewächs with real depth — dense, ripe, with a texture not always found in this region.

Weingut Pawis is one of the leading addresses on the Saale and Unstrut rivers. The Freyburger Edelacker site provides grapes with extraordinary ripeness and mineral tension on shell limestone and variegated sandstone. Pinot Blanc is the home variety here — not a compromise, but a conviction.

In the glass, it is a full-bodied wine with aromas of pineapple, ripe pear, and mango, underpinned by a subtle nutty note that suggests aging in wood. The body is dense, the acidity integrated, the finish long and slightly spicy.

At the table: Hearty sea fish like turbot or halibut, scallops with butter sauce, grilled veal. For something more festive: quail breast, foie gras, or truffle risotto. Serving temperature 10–12 °C.

Pawis stands for wines from Saale-Unstrut, one of Germany's northernmost wine regions with a character all its own. At Vinoscout, you will find Pinot Blanc and Riesling that reflect the cool elegance of this area, as well as a Zweigelt that shows that Saale-Unstrut can also impress with red wine.

The range includes three wines between 14 and almost 34 euros – a manageable but coherent selection for anyone who wants to discover beyond the major wine regions.
