Dönnhoff Riesling Roxheimer Höllenpfad tr Erste Lage

The Roxheimer Höllenpfad is one of the most unique vineyard sites in the Nahe region: a south-facing steep slope in a narrow side valley, whose red sandstone soil gives the Riesling a distinctive spiciness.

Dönnhoff in Oberhausen has been one of the most reliable wineries in the Nahe region for decades. Helmut Dönnhoff and his son Cornelius meticulously cultivate their single vineyard sites without forcing any particular characteristics. The Höllenpfad (Hell's Path) is one of their most distinctive vineyards: calcareous weathered soil over red sandstone, vines between 10 and 40 years old, hand-harvested with rigorous selection, fermentation and aging in traditional wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks. The Erste Lage (VDP) designation is associated with strict yield and quality standards.

In the glass, this Riesling reveals a clear structure: aromas of white peach, yellow apple, and a mineral, slightly smoky core derived from the sandstone soil. The acidity is precise and lively without being harsh—a long, saline finish with a spicy note.
