Dönnhoff Riesling Roxheimer Höllenpfad tr Erste Lage

The Roxheimer Höllenpfad is one of the most idiosyncratic sites of the Nahe: a south-facing steep slope in a narrow side valley, whose red sandstone soil gives the Riesling an unmistakable spice.

Dönnhoff in Oberhausen has been one of the most reliable addresses on the Nahe for decades. Helmut Dönnhoff and his son Cornelius work out their single sites precisely, without forcing effects. The Höllenpfad is one of their most characterful positions: calcareous weathered soil over red sandstone, vines between 10 and 40 years old, hand-picking with consistent selection, fermentation and aging in classic wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks. The Erste Lage (VDP) classification is associated with strict yield and quality requirements.

In the glass, a Riesling with a clear structure appears: aromas of white peach, yellow apple, and a mineral, slightly smoky core that originates from the sandstone soil. The acidity is precise and enlivening without being sharp — long, salty finish with a spicy note.
