Dönnhoff Riesling dry

A dry Riesling that shows what the Nahe can do: clear fruit, lively acidity, and a minerality that is not just claimed, but tasteable.

Dönnhoff is considered one of the defining wineries of the Nahe — Helmut Dönnhoff and his son Cornelius have been working consistently for decades with the steep slopes of the middle Nahe, where the vines stand on volcanic weathered soils of porphyry and melaphyre, interspersed with slate and quartzite. These soils give the wine its characteristic pull: dry, straightforward, with a stony undertone. Fermented and aged in stainless steel and large wooden barrels — an aging process that brings fruit and minerality to the fore without imposing wood aromas.

In the glass, it shows citrus zest, white peach, and a hint of herbal spice. The acidity is fine and invigorating, the finish dry and marked by a slightly salty mineral tone. Not a heavy wine — rather one that makes you want the next glass.

Served at 10–12 °C, it pairs well with grilled fish, asparagus with herb sauce, or a light goat cheese. It also makes a good companion to Asian dishes with lemongrass.
