Cuvée 1682 Origines

With the Cuvée 1682 Origines, Château Fontarèche brings a piece of South French viticultural history into your glass. The year 1682 is not on the label by chance: it marks the first documented mention of this traditional winery in the heart of the Corbières appellation. Here, protected by the foothills of the Pyrenees, the vines grow on barren limestone and gravel soils, which give the wines their typical mineral depth and concentration.

In the glass, it shows a dense, ruby-red color. The classic Languedoc grape variety combination of Syrah, Grenache, and old Carignan vines ensures a multi-layered bouquet. On the nose, aromas of dark heart cherry, wild blackberry, and a hint of black pepper dominate. On the palate, the red wine unfolds a dense texture with ripe, well-integrated tannins. Notes of dried Mediterranean herbs – the classic garrigue – accompany the long, spicy finish.

This Corbières demands strong companions on the plate. It goes excellently with braised leg of lamb with rosemary, a dark ratatouille from the oven, or aged Manchego. The ideal drinking temperature is 16 to 18 °C. If you give the wine half an hour in the decanter before pouring, its complex fruit will open up even more precisely.
