Les Tierces Larges Merlot

A Southern French Merlot that scores with warmth and accessibility — structured enough for the dining table, relaxed enough for everyday life.

Château Fontarèche is located in Corbières, one of the most characterful appellations in the Languedoc. The soils here — schist, limestone, clay — give the Merlot an earthy depth that you won't find in cooler growing regions. The winery has been cultivating its vineyards for generations and is known for expertly crafted wines with regional expression.

In the glass, the Les Tierces Larges shows dark berry fruit: blackberry, black plum, a hint of licorice. The palate is soft and round, the tannins ripe and without edges. A touch of dark chocolate and Mediterranean herbs accompany the medium-length finish.

Good with lamb chops with rosemary, a spicy beef stew, or a strong goat cheese from the Languedoc. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.

The Château

Chateau Fontarèche

Between Narbonne and Carcassonne, in the heart of the Languedoc, lies Château Fontarèche – one of the oldest wineries in the Corbières appellation. The Château has been family-owned since 1682: at that time, Pierre Mignard, portrait painter to Louis XIV, acquired the estate. Today, the de Lamy family, direct descendants of the Mignards, continues the legacy in the ninth generation – together with a team led by director Vincent Dubernet.

Over 17 different grape varieties grow on more than 130 hectares around the Château: Syrah, Carignan, and Grenache Blanc alongside Roussanne, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. This diversity is reflected in the range – from powerful Corbières red wines to fresh Vins de Pays d'Oc. What all the wines have in common is the Mediterranean terroir between the Mediterranean Sea and the foothills of the Pyrenees: dry summers, nutrient-poor soils, and plenty of sun.
