In the glass, it displays a dense, clear, dark red color. The nose unfolds with aromas of blueberries and raspberries, ripe sour cherry , and a delicate hint of toasted coconut and cedar. On the palate, it impresses with velvety-smooth fruit, a medium body, and well-integrated toasty notes—the finish is balanced and long.
The grapes come from select top vineyard sites in the Columbia Valley and are carefully vinified individually. Up to 16 months of aging in French and American oak barrels give it its characteristic structure.

How does the Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot taste?
Velvety fruit dominates: blueberry, ripe sour cherry, a hint of toasted coconut and cedar wood. The body is medium-bodied, the tannins softly integrated — the finish balanced and persistent.
Is the Merlot dry or can you feel residual sugar?
It is vinified dry. The ripe berry fruit seems almost sweet at first, but it is fruit fullness, not residual sugar — the finish remains clear and dry.
What does the wine pair with at the table?
Classically with braised beef, leg of lamb, or venison roast. Also a safe choice with goose or roast veal — the soft tannins get along well with powerful, but not too fatty meat.
At what temperature should I serve it?
Between 16 and 18 °C. Directly from the cellar (approx. 12 °C), it should still open for 20–30 minutes in the glass or in the carafe — this brings out the roasted aromatics better.
How long can I store the wine?
Stored in a cool, dark place, lying down, it keeps for several years without any problems. The 16-month barrel aging gives it enough structure for some patience — but those who drink it young already get a round, accessible glass.
The Winery
Columbia Crest was founded in 1983 and is a US winery located in Washington State, three hours' drive from Seattle. Situated on the Columbia River and protected by the Cascade Mountains, the region offers perfect conditions for viticulture.
In addition, these conditions are favored by the climate, which is characterized by a controlled water supply and sufficient hours of sunshine.
A variety of grape varieties are grown for the production of the wines on a vineyard area of 2500 hectares. These include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah.
