Château Chasse Spleen L'Oratoire de Chasse-Spleen
L'Oratoire de Chasse-Spleen is the second label of the renowned Château Chasse-Spleen from Moulis-en-Médoc — one of the most independent appellations on the left bank of Bordeaux, known for structured, age-worthy red wines outside the major classifications.
Château Chasse-Spleen has been one of the most reliable addresses in the Médoc for decades. The Château is located in the heart of Moulis, on soils of gravel and clay-limestone, and has been managed by the Villars-Foubet family since 1976. The second label gives younger vines and more accessible plots a platform — stylistically close to the Grand Vin, but ready to drink sooner.
A classic Bordeaux profile of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot shows in the glass: blackberry and cassis carry the fruit, plus hints of violet, fine cedarwood, and a hint of white pepper. The tannins are present, but not angular — they will integrate even better with further bottle aging. Medium body, pleasant length.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with rack of lamb with a herb crust, duck breast, or a strong hard cheese like Cantal.
