Château Chasse Spleen L'Oratoire de Chasse-Spleen

L'Oratoire de Chasse-Spleen is the second label of the renowned Château Chasse-Spleen from Moulis-en-Médoc — one of the most distinctive appellations on the left bank of Bordeaux, known for structured, age-worthy red wines outside the major classifications.

Château Chasse-Spleen has been one of the most reliable addresses in the Médoc for decades. Located in the heart of Moulis, on gravel and clay-limestone soils, the château has been run by the Villars-Foubet family since 1976. The secondary label gives a platform to younger vines and more accessible parcels—stylistically close to the Grand Vin, but ready to drink earlier.

In the glass, a classic Bordeaux profile of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is revealed: blackberry and cassis carry the fruit, accompanied by hints of violets, fine cedar, and a touch of white pepper. The tannins are present but not harsh—they will integrate even better with further bottle aging. Medium-bodied, pleasant length.

Drinking window: now until 2028. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with herb-crusted rack of lamb, duck breast, or a strong hard cheese such as Cantal.
