Bodegas Campillo Campillo Blanco Fermentado en Barrica

Bodegas Campillo Campillo Blanco Fermentado en Barrica
A white wine from Rioja that shows what barrique fermentation can do for a Spanish white: creamy texture, but not a heavy block of wood.
Bodegas Campillo is one of the reliable addresses in the Rioja Alta. The winery consistently focuses on classic vinification — even for its white wine. The Blanco Fermentado en Barrica is fermented directly in French oak barrels and subsequently aged on the fine lees. This process gives the wine its unusual fullness without letting it become too plump.
In the glass, it appears golden yellow with greenish reflections. On the nose, roasted almond, ripe quince, and a hint of vanilla — the wood is present but integrated. On the palate, a creamy texture that is kept in shape by a taut line of acidity. Medium-length finish with a slightly nutty tone.
- Food: Gratinéed seafood, chicken in cream sauce, ripe Manchego, or grilled pulpo with paprika oil
- Serving temperature: 10–12 °C

In the middle of a sea of vines rises a building like a French château. This is the dream of Julio Faustino Martínez, who brought the Bordeaux model to Rioja with Bodegas Campillo .
The heart of the estate consists of 50 hectares of vines planted with clay and limestone. Tempranillo, Graciano, and Viura grapes grow here. The grapes are harvested by hand.
Campillo wines are the foundation of the Faustino Group. Today, the estate is a major player in its own right in Spain's most famous wine region.
