Barbaresco DOCG 0.75L
Gaja is no ordinary name in Piedmont — the winery from Barbaresco has changed the perception of Nebbiolo worldwide. Since Angelo Gaja began vinifying Piedmontese wines in the 1960s and 70s with the ambition of Burgundian Grands Crus, the Barbaresco DOCG has been considered the reference of the appellation: dense, complex, with the unmistakable structure that only Nebbiolo produces on the hills around Barbaresco.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose, sour cherry, dried rose, and a hint of tar — classic Nebbiolo aromas that gain depth with a little air. On the palate, precise acidity, firmly woven tannins, and a long, slightly spicy finish with notes of licorice and tobacco.
Best served at 16–18 °C, ideally decanted an hour before pouring. Classic companions are Brasato al Barolo, game ragù, or aged Parmigiano Reggiano. Those who drink the wine pure will notice how it opens up in the glass over time.
