Up to 65,000 hectoliters of wine are produced annually on 1,500 hectares of vineyards here. Despite the relatively small size of the wine-growing region, up to 100 different grape varieties are cultivated in Liguria, the majority of which are indigenous.

The wine region of Liguria is located on the Gulf of Genoa. While the climate of the wine-growing region is rather warm and Mediterranean in the coastal area, it has a more semi-continental climate inland. After the Aosta Valley, Liguria is the smallest wine region in Italy. Every year, up to 65,000 hectoliters of wine are produced here on 1,500 hectares of vineyards. Considering that the wine-growing region is rather small, up to 100 different grape varieties are vinified in Liguria, the majority of which are autochthonous. Many of these autochthonous grape varieties are approved for quality cultivation in the wine region. White grape varieties in particular predominate on the lime-rich soil near the coast. The grape varieties Albarola, Lumassina, Pigato, and Bosco dominate here. Among the red vines in Liguria, the Dolcetto, Pollera Nera, Granaccia, Rossese, and Sangiovese grapes play a major role.
