Up to 65,000 hectoliters of wine are produced annually on 1,500 hectares of vineyards here. Despite the relatively small size of the wine-growing region, up to 100 different grape varieties are cultivated in Liguria, the majority of which are indigenous.

Die Wein-Region Ligurien liegt am Golf von Genua. Während das Klima des Wein-Anbaugebietes im Küstenbereich eher warm und mediterran ist, weist es im Binnenland ein eher semi kontinentales Klima auf. Nach Valle d’ Aosta bildet Ligurien die kleinste Wein-Region in Italien. Jährlich werden hier auf einer 1.500 Hektar großen Rebfläche bis zu 65.000 Hektoliter Wein produziert. Dafür, dass das Wein-Anbaugebiet eher klein ist, werden in Ligurien bis zu 100 verschiedene Rebsorten gekeltert, wovon der Großteil autochthon ist. Viele von diesen autochthonen Rebsorten sind für den Qualitäts-Anbau der Wein-Region zugelassen. Besonders die weißen Rebsorten überwiegen auf dem kalkreichen Boden in Küstennähe. Hier dominieren vor allem die Rebsorten Albarola, Lumassina, Pigato und Bosco. Bei den roten Reben in Ligurien spielen die Trauben Dolcetto, Pollera Nera, Granaccia, Rossese und Sangiovese eine große Rolle.
