Between tuff cities and volcanic rocks in the south of Tuscany lies the Fattoria Aldobrandesca — a winery of the Antinori family that bears its name from the medieval Aldobrandeschi rulers who once dominated this area. The history of this landscape is not a backdrop here, but a foundation.
On 250 hectares of mineral-rich, volcanic soils around Sovana, two unusual varieties thrive side by side: the rare Aleatico grape, one of the oldest in Italy, and Malbec, which has found a European terroir in the Maremma that hardly any other place can offer it. Volcanic minerality, Mediterranean warmth, and a soil structure that forces depth — this noticeably shapes the style of the wines.
What Antinori grows and ages here follows the conviction that extraordinary sites do not need volume. The wines of Fattoria Aldobrandesca are dense, but not heavy — with a character that results from place and variety, not from staging.
