Fattoria Aldobrandesca

In the heart of the Etruscan Maremma – where millennia-old tuff cities like Sovana perch atop volcanic rocks – lies Fattoria Aldobrandesca. The Antinori family winery bears the name of the powerful Aldobrandeschi family, who shaped this region in the Middle Ages. History that you can literally taste here.

On 250 hectares of mineral-rich, volcanic soils grows what makes this landscape so special: the rare Aleatico grape, one of Italy's oldest – and, surprisingly, Malbec , which has found perhaps its most fascinating European terroir here. Two worlds, one exceptional address.

Fattoria Aldobrandesca –
Antinori in the Etruscan Maremma

Nestled between tuff towns and volcanic soils, not far from the medieval rock town of Sovana, lies Fattoria Aldobrandesca – a winery owned by the Antinori family, named after the Aldobrandeschi, the former rulers of this rugged, historically rich landscape in the Maremma Toscana .

On 250 hectares of mineral-rich, volcanic soil, two grape varieties thrive that could hardly be more different: the rare Aleatico, one of Italy's oldest, and Malbec, which develops an expressiveness in this terroir rarely found elsewhere in Europe. The volcanic soils impart a characteristic minerality and depth to both wines.

What is produced here is not an ordinary wine: The combination of millennia-old soil, Mediterranean climate and the artisanal standards of the Antinori family results in bottles that bring the unique character of this region directly into the glass – tart, earthy, with an energy that one immediately believes comes from the Etruscan Maremma.
