Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry —
Third Growth from the heart of Margaux

Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry is located in the center of the Margaux appellation, a few steps from the village center. The winery bears the name of two owner families: Simon Malescot, a royal notary, acquired the estate in the early 18th century; Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry took it over decades later. The Zuger family has been running the Château since 1955 — and has developed it into one of the most reliable Third Growths of the Médoc.

The vineyard area covers around 23 hectares on deep gravel soils typical of Margaux: well-drained, heat-retaining, ideal for late Cabernet Sauvignon ripening. The blend share is usually 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Vinification follows classic Bordeaux principles — controlled mash fermentation, aging in barriques, some of which are new.

In the glass, Malescot Saint-Exupéry shows the floral side of Margaux: violets, blackcurrant, a hint of cedarwood. The tannins are present but fine-grained — a wine that blossoms with five to ten years of cellar time. Recommendation: rack of lamb, duck breast, or mature Comté.
