Château Léoville Poyferré is one of the most important Second Growths of the Médoc — classified in 1855, it is now owned by the Cuvelier family, who have held the château since 1920. The vineyards lie in the heart of Saint-Julien , on deep gravel soils adjacent to Léoville-Las Cases, overlooking the Gironde estuary. This location imparts a combination of structure and elegance to the wines, typical of the appellation.

In the cellar, winemaker Isabelle Davin works with a high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and Petit Verdot. The wines mature for 18 to 20 months in barriques, some of them new. The result is red wines with dark fruit, cedar notes, and a tannic structure designed for ten to fifteen years of development—not a wine for next Tuesday, but one for the cellar.
