Wynn's Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz HK

The Michael Shiraz is the prestige cuvée of Wynns Coonawarra Estate — vinified only in years of exceptional ripeness, from the oldest and best parcels of the famous Terra Rossa soils of Coonawarra.

Wynns is one of the region's founding wineries. Family-owned since 1951 and systematically developed after its acquisition by David Wynn, the name today stands for reliable quality from South Australia's limestone terroir. The Michael Shiraz was first produced as a single bottling in 1955—named after David Wynn's youngest son—and has since been released only in exceptionally ripe vintages.

In the glass, it displays the typical density of a ripe Coonawarra Shiraz: dark blackberry and cassis, baked plum, cedarwood, and black pepper. A hint of graphite hints at the mineral foundation. The tannins are firm but well integrated thanks to aging in barriques. A long, spicy finish with lingering fruit.

Ideal with grilled beef steak , rack of lamb with a herb crust, or mature hard cheese. Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Depending on the vintage, the drinking window is 10–20 years from bottling—those who are patient will be rewarded.
