Wynn's Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz HK
The Michael Shiraz is the prestige cuvée from Wynns Coonawarra Estate — vinified only in years with exceptional ripeness, from the oldest and best plots of Coonawarra's famous Terra Rossa soils.
Wynns is one of the founding wineries of the region. Family-owned since 1951 and systematically developed after the takeover by David Wynn, the name today stands for reliable quality from the South Australian limestone terroir. The Michael Shiraz was first produced as a single bottling in 1955 — named after David Wynn's youngest son — and has appeared only in particularly ripe vintages since then.
In the glass, it shows the typical density of ripe Coonawarra Shiraz: dark blackberry and cassis, dried plum, cedarwood, and black pepper. Plus a hint of graphite, which points to the mineral subsoil. The tannins are grippy but well-integrated through aging in barriques. Long, spicy finish with persistent fruit.
Ideal with grilled beef steak, rack of lamb with herb crust, or mature hard cheese. Serving temperature 16–18 °C.
