Wynn's Coonawarra Estate Coonawarra Chardonnay

Coonawarra is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon — but the region also produces white Burgundy. This Chardonnay from Wynns shows what cool evening temperatures and the characteristic terra rossa soil over red limestone can bring out in a classic grape variety.

Wynns Coonawarra Estate is one of the oldest and most renowned wineries in the region — founded in 1891, now part of Penfolds' parent company Treasury Wine Estates, but retaining its own distinct character. The Chardonnay grapes grow on the narrow strip of red clay that has given Coonawarra its reputation.

In the glass, a fresh, medium-bodied white wine reveals itself: stewed pear, white peach , a hint of citrus zest. Partial aging in French oak lends the palate a touch of smoothness and creaminess without overpowering the fruit. Acidity and body are well-balanced, the finish is medium-long and pleasantly fresh.
