Vesevo Taurasi DOCG
Taurasi is considered the Barolo of the South — and this Vesevo shows why: Aglianico on volcanic soil delivers red wines with bite, depth and real aging potential.
The Vesevo winery operates in the hills around Avellino, about 50 km east of Naples. The Campania region has been experiencing a surge in quality for years, and Taurasi DOCG is its most prestigious appellation. Aglianico —one of Italy's oldest grape varieties with over 300 years of cultivation tradition in Campania—needs time and the right soil. It finds both here on the volcanic soils at the foot of the Apennines.
Sixteen months of aging in barriques soften the tannins typical of Aglianico without masking them: the tannins are present and firm, yet structured. The nose reveals aromas of dark sour cherry, blackberry, and ripe plum, underpinned by notes of chocolate, licorice, and black pepper. The finish is long, spicy, and characterized by a mineral freshness.
Serving suggestion: Best served at 17–18 °C. Drinking window open until 2028. Pairs well with braised lamb, wild boar ragù, or a mature Pecorino.
