Terre de Tramontane Arrivant Rouge AOP - Organic
A Languedoc red wine that refutes the cliché of the heavy southern Frenchman: the Tramontane wind, which sweeps over the hills here almost daily, keeps temperatures in check and gives the Grenache time to ripen completely — without sacrificing freshness and tension.
Johanna and Daniel Freund farm their 10 hectares at the foot of the Sainte Marthe volcano biodynamically: hand-harvesting in the early morning hours, wild yeasts, no chemical agents whatsoever. The soils combine Keuper, slate, basalt, and limestone — a volcanically influenced diversity that gives the wine a mineral depth that is not a matter of course in the Languedoc. The north-facing sites reinforce the effect: less heat, more structure.
In the glass, ripe red fruit appears — cherry, blackberry — with clear garrigue notes: thyme, lavender, a hint of wild herbs. On the palate, powerful but well-integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a long finish with growing spice. Not a heavyweight, but a wine with attitude.
Pairs with leg of lamb with herbs of Provence, grilled merguez, or a hearty goat cheese from the south. Drinking temperature: 16–18 °C.
