Spätburgunder Bissersheim Kalkmergel dry QW Palatinate 0.75L

A Spätburgunder from the Palatinate that shows what calcareous marl soil can get out of this grape variety: structured, with clear fruit and a minerality that distinguishes the wine from many Palatinate red wines.

The Wageck Pfaffmann winery cultivates its local wines on south-facing slopes around Bissersheim — a village in the northern part of the Palatinate, where the calcareous marl soil ensures freshness and tension in the wine. This soil type gives the Spätburgunder a cool, almost Burgundian signature that is clearly evident in the glass.

On the nose, it shows sour cherry and raspberry confit, plus a hint of earth and some spice. On the palate, medium body, lively acidity, fine tannins without hardness. The finish is clean and characterized by a light mineral note.

You should drink it best at 16–17 °C — with rack of lamb with herb crust, porcini mushroom risotto, or a mature Münster cheese. It also cuts a fine figure as a companion to light game dishes.
