Behind the as, if! is Cantina Torrevento from the province of Terra di Bari, managed by Francesco Liantonio not far from the Alta Murgia National Park. The winery has been working for years to preserve old Apulian grape varieties — the Primitivo in the DOC Manduria is the most well-known expression of this. The as, if! is an in-house creation, developed in close cooperation with Torrevento. The 2021 vintage was awarded 91 points by Falstaff.

Deep ruby red in the glass with purple reflections. On the nose, candied orange peel, Amarena cherry and a hint of rose, behind that leather, coffee and vanilla. On the palate, lush and full-bodied, with dense, ripe tannins and a long finish of dark chocolate. Typical for Primitivo di Manduria: lots of fruit, lots of warmth, no sharp edges. Serving temperature 17–18 °C, drink now or store until 2027.

Pairs well with: braised lamb, game ragù, aged Pecorino or a hearty tomato sugo with pasta.
