Monzingen Spring Cookies Riesling dry GG

The Frühlingsplätzchen is one of the great steep slopes of the Nahe – and Schäfer-Fröhlich shows here what this site can do: cool precision, dense minerality, long breath.

The Schäfer-Fröhlich winery in Bockenau has been one of the top names in the German Riesling scene for years. Tim Fröhlich cultivates the steep slopes around Monzingen biodynamically, ferments spontaneously in wooden barrels, and allows the wines to mature on the lees – without haste. The Frühlingsplätzchen vineyard lies on weathered porphyry and clay slate, soils that impart the Riesling with its characteristic herbal spiciness and salinity.

In the glass, the GG displays a taut aromatic structure: lime zest, white peach, herbal notes such as thyme and bergamot, underpinned by a distinct slate note. The acidity is precise, never harsh – it carries the wine and holds it together for years. Medium-bodied, dense texture, salty-mineral finish with remarkable length.

Drinking window: now until 2035+. Recommended temperature: 12–14 °C.
Goes well with grilled sea bass with caper butter, scallops, goat cheese or a classic Wiener Schnitzel.

Schäfer-Fröhlich

The Schäfer-Fröhlich winery originates in the picturesque Nahe Valley in Germany and boasts a long family tradition of winemaking. Since 1800, the Schäfer family has dedicated itself to cultivating grapevines and producing high-quality wines. Today, the winery is managed by Tim Fröhlich, who combines his ancestors' traditions with modern winemaking techniques. The estate stretches across the hills of the Nahe Valley and benefits from the region's unique climatic and geological conditions. The vineyards are primarily planted with Riesling and Pinot Noir grapes, which find ideal conditions here to produce wines of exceptional quality. The Schäfer-Fröhlich winery's portfolio comprises an impressive selection of wines that reflect the diversity and quality of the Nahe region. The Rieslings, in particular, are the winery's hallmark and are known for their elegance, freshness, and longevity. In addition, the winery also produces excellent Burgundy wines as well as other varieties that perfectly express the terroir and the winemaker's skill. At Schäfer-Fröhlich, quality is paramount. The winery relies on meticulous handwork in the vineyard and gentle processing of the grapes in the cellar to unlock the full potential of the wines. Winemaking is carried out using traditional methods and state-of-the-art viticultural techniques to produce wines of the highest quality and authenticity.
