SAUVIGNON BLANC Limestone and Chalk TEMENT WINERY
Sauvignon Blanc from southern Styria – and one that shows what limestone soil really means: not a polished fruit bomb, but a wine with a mineral backbone and clear origin.
Tement Winery is one of the most influential names in the Styrian wine scene. This family-run winery in Berghausen has been producing top-quality Sauvignon Blanc for decades – cultivated biodynamically, with a deep understanding of its vineyards. This estate wine combines grapes from 55 individual parcels, all hand-harvested, all grown on mineral-rich limestone soils. Spontaneous fermentation and gentle aging in stainless steel tanks ensure no oak influence on the fruit.
In the glass, gooseberry, lemon zest, and a hint of white currant dominate. Beneath this lies a fine, chalky spiciness that gives the wine its special depth. The acidity is present but never harsh – rather taut and invigorating. The finish is long, salty-mineral with a lingering herbal note.
