Saint-Joseph Les Challeys AC

The Saint-Joseph Les Challeys from Delas shows how supple and at the same time precise Syrah from the northern Rhône Valley can be. A dry red wine that brings fruit and spice into a balanced ratio.

The grapes come from selected parcels around Vion, Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, Mauves and Tournon. The soils of granite, slate and gneiss give the wine structure and finesse. After a short cold maceration, it is vinified in open concrete tanks, and the wine is then matured for ten to fourteen months in oak barrels and tanks.

In the glass is deep ruby red. On the nose, blackcurrant and dark berry fruit dominate, accompanied by fine spice notes. On the palate, the wine feels supple, the tannins are fine-grained, and the finish draws out with clear fruit.

Serve it at 16 to 18 °C. It pairs with leg of lamb with herbs, grilled beef, duck breast or a mature hard cheese.

The Domaine

Delas

Maison Delas Frères – the soul of the Rhône Valley. A traditional house since 1835, but 1996 brought the turning point. Fabrice Rosset and oenologist Jacques Grange took over – and made Delas one of the "big four" of the Rhône.

Grange, with Burgundian experience, focuses on elegance instead of pure power. Parcel-by-parcel vinification, uncompromising terroir focus. 32 hectares of their own top sites: Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage. The result: wines with freshness, depth, and character.

In 2019, Delas moved into the new cellar vault in Tain-l'Hermitage – after almost 190 years into the light, where it has long belonged. Rhône as it tastes.
