Merlot Collio DOC

Twelve months in small oak barrels – that leaves clear traces on the Merlot from the Collio Goriziano: a deep garnet red, aromas of sour cherry and berry jam, plus a gentle vanilla note from the wood aging.

Russiz Superiore is one of the most reliable addresses in Friuli. The winery is located in the hilly area between Gorizia and Slovenia, where calcareous chalk and marl soils (Ponca) give the wines a characteristic minerality. Merlot grows here on cool hillside sites, which keeps the fruit fresh and prevents over-ripeness.

In the glass: cherry, dark berry jam, a hint of vanilla, and some cedar wood in the background. Medium body, soft tannins, juicy finish with good length. Not a heavy, tannin-heavy red wine – rather accessible and yet complex enough for the table.

Russiz Superiore

Russiz Superiore is an Italian winery, located in Capriva del Friuli in the east of the country just before the border with Slovenia. Together with the winery Marco Felluga, it has existed since the middle of the 19th century, and both are now managed in the sixth generation by Ilaria Felluga. The region has a mild climate thanks to the proximity to the sea (30 km) and the protection of the Alps in the north. The soils of the region consist mainly of sandstone and marl and give the 100 ha of vineyard area the best conditions for the company's viticulture. Cultivated grape varieties include Merlot, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc, or Tocai Friulano.
