Merlot Collio DOC

Twelve months in small oak barrels – this leaves a clear mark on the Merlot from Collio Goriziano: a deep garnet red, aromas of sour cherry and berry jam, plus a gentle vanilla note from the wood aging.

Russiz Superiore is one of the most reliable wineries in Friuli. The estate is located in the hilly region between Gorizia and Slovenia, where calcareous chalk and marl soils (Ponca) impart a characteristic minerality to the wines. Merlot grapes grow here on cool, sloping sites, which keeps the fruit fresh and prevents overripeness.

In the glass: cherry, dark berry jam, a hint of vanilla, and a touch of cedar in the background. Medium-bodied, soft tannins, juicy finish with good length. Not a heavy, tannic red wine – rather approachable yet complex enough for the table.

Russiz Superiore

Russiz Superiore is an Italian winery located near the town of Russiz di Sotto in the east of the country, just before the Slovenian border. Together with the Marco Felluga winery, it has existed since the mid-19th century, and both are now run by the fifth generation of the Felluga family, Robert Felluga. The region enjoys a mild climate thanks to its proximity to the sea (30 km) and the protection afforded by the Alps to the north. The region's soils, consisting mainly of sandstone and marl, provide ideal conditions for the winery's 100 hectares of vineyards. Among the grape varieties cultivated are Merlot, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc, and Tocai Friulano.
