Cabernet Franc Collio DOC

Cabernet Franc from the Collio — one of the most demanding wine-growing sites in Friuli, right on the Slovenian border. Russiz Superiore, one of the most renowned wineries in the region, farms its sites in the Collio with the goal of depicting the mineral peculiarity of the Ponca soil — an eroded flysch rock made of sandstone and marl — in every wine.

The Cabernet Franc matures for twelve months in small oak barrels and subsequently shows an aroma profile that depicts the grape variety in its characteristic range: black cherry and blackberry meet blackcurrant and green pepper — that typical spiciness that clearly distinguishes Cabernet Franc from other Bordeaux varieties. In the mouth, it appears full-bodied with velvety tannins that show no harshness despite their density, and a freshness that keeps the finish lively.

Good with entrecôte with herb butter, leg of lamb from the oven, or mature Pecorino. Best served at 16–18 °C — then the spice and fruit unfold without pressure.
