Ridge Monte Bello

Ridge Monte Bello
Monte Bello is the flagship wine of Ridge Vineyards – a red wine from the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation that has been among California's most remarkable cuvées for decades.
Ridge cultivates the Monte Bello vineyards at an altitude of over 700 meters above Silicon Valley. The combination of limestone-rich soil, cool nights, and a Mediterranean climate creates a density and freshness rarely found in Napa Cabernets. The blend is based on Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec – in varying proportions depending on the vintage.
On the nose, the wine opens with aromas of cassis, blackberry, and a hint of cola, accompanied by clove and nutmeg spice and toasted oak. On the palate, ripe dark fruits unfold, enlivened by a vibrant acidity that gives the wine structure. The tannins are polished and velvety, the body full yet light. The long finish reveals limestone minerality and forest floor notes – a testament to the exceptional terroir.
Serving temperature: 17–18 °C. Drinking window: has potential for several more years, ideally decant. Pairs well with braised lamb shoulder, herb-crusted beef fillet, or aged Cheddar.
