Psenner Grappa St. Magdalener Monovitigno
A mature South Tyrolean grappa that combines the character of two classic red wine grape varieties of the region in a clear, aromatically complex distillate.
Psenner in Tramin on the South Tyrolean Wine Road is one of Italy's most renowned grappa distilleries. For decades, the company has worked with pomace from the wine-growing region around Bolzano – including that from the DOC vineyard St. Magdalener , one of South Tyrol's most traditional red wine vineyards. Their monovitigno approach means that Vernatsch and Lagrein, the two main grape varieties of the vineyard, are distilled together and not blended.
Eighteen months of aging in French barriques leave their mark: On the nose, the grappa reveals dried cherry and plum, along with a hint of vanilla and toasted oak from the wood aging. On the palate, it is soft and warm, with a subtle spiciness in the long finish. The South Tyrol quality seal confirms its origin and production quality.
Neat at room temperature in a small grappa glass – after a meal with venison roast or mature mountain cheese from Trentino.
