The Deutzerhof winery is one of the renowned addresses in the Ahr valley and is a member of the VDP. The Ahr benefits from an extraordinary microclimate: slate soils and the narrow river valley store heat, which allows Pinot Noir to reach full ripeness despite its northern location. The Balthasar is classified as a Neuenahr village wine — a clearly defined origin within the VDP quality system.

In the glass, it shows aromas of sour cherry and red forest berries, plus a fine spice and subtle earthiness, as is typical for Ahr Pinot. The tannins are polished, the acidity lively without sharpness, the finish medium-long and dry. Serving temperature: 16–17 °C.

Pairs well with rack of lamb with a herb crust, duck confit, or a ripe Brie de Meaux. It also makes a good companion to mushroom dishes or a good beef pot roast.
