Butcher's Prachtstück Cuvée Red

An approachable red wine from the Palatinate region, combining four grape varieties into a round, fruit-forward cuvée — uncomplicated in the best sense.

Uli Metzger manages his vineyard in the Palatinate with a clear focus on craftsmanship and grapes grown in calcareous marl soils. This mineral foundation gives even his everyday cuvées a certain structure. His showpiece, the red cuvée, combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Dornfelder, Portugieser, and Regent—a combination that consciously unites body, color, and approachability.

Deep violet in the glass. The nose reveals red berries—cherry, a touch of blackberry—along with floral notes and a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with dense, soft fruit and moderate tannins. The finish is short to medium-long and pleasantly uncomplicated.

Best served at 16–18 °C . Pairs well with grilled pork neck, pasta with tomato sauce, or a hearty lentil stew. Also a great, uncomplicated drink after work—no aging potential, but immediately accessible.

Metzger Winery

The name Uli Metzger from Asselheim is synonymous with the Metzger winery in the Northern Palatinate. He has managed the winery since 2010, though he has been involved with the business for over 30 years, when it still belonged to his parents. His dedication and innovative ideas have led to its success. Numerous technological advancements, as well as the distinctive labels, which categorize the wines into three tiers – similar to the cuts of beef – have contributed to the wines' renown. Modern, high-quality wines are cultivated on approximately 19 hectares of land, largely composed of calcareous soil.
