Markus Schneider Sauvignon Blanc Fumé
Since New Zealand can also be considered the overseas home of Sauvignon Blanc, Markus Schneider chose "Kaitui" as the name, which means "tailor" in Maori, and "Fumé" means "smoky." The name "Kaitui Fumé" thus indicates that this Sauvignon Blanc was produced in the style of smoky Loire wines. This smoky aroma is achieved through several months of fermentation in wooden barrels. The grapes for the Markus Schneider Kaitui Fumé grow at an altitude of over 280 meters above sea level, on fine, calcareous soils. The finished wine is a bright golden yellow. The opulent bouquet surprises with aromas of exotic fruits, blackcurrant, grapefruit, mango, spices, and, of course, a smoky note. On the palate, it is exceptionally full-bodied, fruity, yet also juicy and elegant, with noticeable oak notes.

Since 1994, Markus Schneider from Ellerstadt in the Palatinate region has built a winery that does many things differently from its colleagues: no vineyard designations, no quality labels, but instead modern branded wines with an international mix of grape varieties and an unmistakable character. On approximately 92 hectares, he produces concentrated, fruit-forward wines characterized by late harvesting, yield reduction, and meticulous cellar techniques. The avoidance of herbicides, insecticides, and artificial fertilizers, as well as the FAIR'N GREEN certification, demonstrates that Schneider considers quality and responsibility together. From a small barn on the family farm, a business with an annual production of around 800,000 bottles has emerged—and one of the most distinctive success stories in the German wine scene.
