Kapellenberg Mönchshof Silvaner GG

A Silvaner that shows what Franconia is capable of: complex, grounded, with a depth rarely expected from this grape variety.

Bickel-Stumpf cultivates the steep Kapellenberg Mönchshof vineyard near Thüngersheim — a limestone terroir that gives the Silvaner its characteristic tension between fruit and minerality. The Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru) represents the highest quality level of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates): hand-harvested, strictly controlled yields, and long aging in the cellar.

The nose offers herbal and slightly mushroomy notes, along with a hint of bacon and ripe yellow fruit—mirabelle plum, Williams pear—with a subtle suggestion of roasted onions, lending the profile a savory spiciness. On the palate, it is juicy and powerful, with nutty and slightly dried herbal notes. The acidity is lively but never intrusive; a chalky minerality persists through to the long finish, which ends with a delicate, creamy texture and a genuine bite. Firmly structured, yet never heavy.

Serving suggestion: 12–14 °C. Drinking window until at least 2030. Pairs well with veal sweetbreads, pike-perch on lentils, mature Gruyère cheese or white asparagus with hollandaise sauce.

Bickel-Stumpf

Bickel-Stumpf – a small, exquisite family winery from Franconia. Two special vineyard sites, two distinct characters: the Mönchshof in Frickenhausen, situated on barren limestone by the river; and the Rothlauf on the Thüngersheim Johannisberg, on red sandstone. The result? Mönchshof wines: full-bodied, profound, with Burgundian elegance. Rothlauf wines: delicate, straightforward, and memorable. A member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates), cultivated with respect for nature. Not a mass-produced product, but craftsmanship you can taste.
