Hugel Gewürztraminer Estate
The Hugel Gewürztraminer Estate is the prime example of what Alsace can do with this distinctive grape variety: a high density of aromas without seeming heavy.
Hugel & Fils from Riquewihr is one of the most renowned wineries in Alsace – family-owned since 1639, now in its thirteenth generation. The Estate line vinifies grapes from long-term leased and company-owned vineyards around Riquewihr, on granite soils with clay tops, which give the Gewürztraminer its typical full body.
In the glass, it displays the classic varietal character: lychee, rose petal, and candied peach on the nose, accompanied by a hint of white pepper. On the palate, the texture is sumptuous, the fruit sweetness is clearly perceptible, but balanced by a clean acidity. The finish remains spicy and lingers.
