Hugel & Fils – the soul of Alsace. Since 1639, this name has been inextricably linked to winemaking in Riquewihr. Today, Jean-Philippe, Etienne, and Marc Hugel run the family winery in its 13th generation – a global synonym for Alsatian wines. Their 30 hectares in and around Riquewihr comprise half of Grand Cru vineyards such as Schoenenbourg, with vines averaging 35 years old. Hugel consciously avoids Grand Cru labeling – their own quality standards are stricter. Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir develop unparalleled finesse here. A member of Primum Familiae Vini, recognized by Wine Spectator – and still a family business. Alsace as it should be.

Hugel & Fils is one of the few wineries whose history stretches back further than most European countries. The family has been cultivating vines in Riquewihr – one of the most densely populated wine-growing villages in Alsace, nestled between the Vosges Mountains and the Rhine plain – since 1639. Today, Jean-Philippe, Etienne, and Marc Hugel run the estate in its 13th generation, without losing sight of the essentials: precision in the vineyard and patience in the cellar.

On approximately 30 hectares, a large portion of which are in Grand Cru vineyards such as Schoenenbourg, vines with an average age of 35 years are cultivated. Hugel deliberately forgoes the official Grand Cru label – their own quality standards are simply higher. Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir showcase the depth and aromatic complexity that Alsace has to offer: from the crisp minerality of dry Rieslings to the multifaceted spice of a Vendange Tardive.

As a member of Primum Familiae Vini, Hugel ranks among the most prestigious family wineries in the world – and remains what it has always been: a family business that grows, produces and bottles its own wines.
