Hugel Pinot Gris Estate

The Pinot Gris Estate from Hugel & Fils shows what Alsace can do with this grape variety: a full, round body, carried by subtle residual sweetness and a soft acidity structure.

Hugel is one of the most famous names in Alsace – based in Riquewihr since 1639, now managed in the thirteenth generation. The "Estate" Pinot Gris comes from the estate's own vineyards around the town, vinified in the classic Alsatian style with a focus on varietal purity and accessibility.

In the glass, the wine presents aromas of yellow peach, beeswax, and a hint of ginger. The mouthfeel is creamy and pleasantly weighty, the acidity moderate – not a wine that boasts freshness, but one that offers depth and melt. The finish shows a slightly spicy note, typical for well-matured Pinot Gris from Alsace.

Hugel & Fils

Hugel & Fils – the soul of Alsace. Since 1639, this name has been inextricably linked with viticulture in Riquewihr. Today, Jean-Philippe, Etienne, and Marc Hugel run the family winery in the 13th generation – a worldwide synonym for Alsace wines.

Their 30 hectares in and around Riquewihr include half Grand Cru sites like Schoenenbourg, the vines on average 35 years old. Hugel consciously refrains from Grand Cru labeling – their own quality standards are stricter. Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir unfold incomparable finesse here.

Member of the Primum Familiae Vini, awarded by Wine Spectator – and still a family business. Alsace, as it should be.
