Hedges Family Estate CMS Red Blend

CMS stands for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah — the three grape varieties that Hedges blends on Red Mountain into an accessible, characterful blend.

The Hedges Family Estate winery is one of the pioneers of the Red Mountain AVA in Washington State. The family has been cultivating their vineyards since the early 1990s and grows their vines on the volcanic basalt soil of the hill east of Yakima. Red Mountain is considered one of the warmest and driest growing regions in Washington — short growing season, high daytime heat, cool nights. This results in ripe fruit while maintaining structure.

In the glass, the CMS Red Blend shows aromas of red cherry and blackberry, underscored by cocoa, a hint of vanilla, and spicy smoke notes from the oak aging. Medium body, soft tannins, creamy texture — the finish remains pleasantly long with a slight spice.
