Halenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs 5.0L

The Halenberg from Emrich-Schönleber is one of the most well-known Riesling addresses in the Nahe — a Grosses Gewächs from a site that sets standards despite its manageable 7.76 hectares.

The winery in Monzingen is managed by Werner and Frank Emrich-Schönleber. As early as 1997, the family decided to vinify site-specific Rieslings exclusively from their own best parcels. The grapes for the Halenberg grow on weathered blue slate and quartzite, on slopes between 20 and 70 percent incline and at altitudes of 160 to 220 meters. This combination of soil and exposure fundamentally shapes the character of the wine. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand, selectively.

On the nose, the Halenberg shows a finely structured, salty minerality, accompanied by ripe grapefruit aromas and tropical fruit. On the palate, a herbal-spicy note joins in, giving the wine depth and tension. The acidity is precise, the finish long and salty.

It is best served at 10–12 °C. Pairs with sea bass with fennel, scallops in lemon butter, or a ripe Comté. The 5.0-liter bottle is suitable for special occasions where an extraordinary Riesling is to take center stage.
