Spring Cookies Riesling GG Magnum

The Frühlingsplätzchen is one of the great steep slopes of the Nahe — and this magnum shows why: more volume, more depth, more potential for the long journey in the cellar.

Emrich-Schönleber in Monzingen has been among the top German Riesling producers for decades. The family manages their steep slopes in the Nahe side valley with a focus on precise, site-typical wines — it is no coincidence that the Frühlingsplätzchen is classified as a Grosses Gewächs.

The site itself explains the character: southwest to southeast orientation, up to 70% incline, red slate and pebbles on Rotliegend with deposits of red clay. The soil gives the wine its mineral tension; the exposure ensures early warmth and a lively fruit ripeness.

In the glass, the young vintage shows aromas of white peach and ripe apple, underpinned by fine herbal spice notes that are typical for this site. The acidity is precise and carries the wine without edges. With increasing bottle aging, the minerality of the red slate emerges more strongly — the wine gains tension and depth.

Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Pairs with grilled sea bass with fennel, scallops in butter, or ripe Comté.

Emrich-Schönleber

VDP Member Estate

Emrich-Schönleber is one of the names you should know if you truly want to understand Riesling. The family winery of Werner and Frank Schönleber is located on the Nahe River – a region often overshadowed by the Mosel and Rheingau, but one that boasts vineyards of exceptional quality. Their Grand Cru wines from the Halenberg and Auf der Ley vineyards regularly set new standards: mineral, precise, with an aging potential spanning decades.
