Spring Cookies Riesling GG Magnum
The Frühlingsplätzchen vineyard is one of the large steep slopes of the Nahe region — and this Magnum shows why: more volume, more depth, more potential for the long journey in the cellar.
Emrich-Schönleber in Monzingen has been among the top German Riesling producers for decades. The family cultivates their steep slopes in the Nahe side valley with a focus on precise, age-worthy wines — it is no coincidence that the Frühlingsplätzchen vineyard is classified as a Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru).
The location itself explains the character: southwest to southeast exposure, up to 70% slope, red slate and pebbles on Rotliegend with deposits of red clay. The soil gives the wine its mineral tension; the exposure ensures early warmth and vibrant fruit ripening.
In the glass, the young vintage displays aromas of white peach and ripe apple, underpinned by delicate herbal spice notes typical of this vineyard. The acidity is precise and carries the wine smoothly. With increasing bottle aging, the minerality of the red slate becomes more pronounced—the wine gains in tension and depth.
Drinking window: 2026–2038. Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Pairs well with grilled sea bass with fennel, scallops in butter, or mature Comté cheese.
Emrich-Schönleber is one of the names you should know if you truly want to understand Riesling. The family winery of Werner and Frank Schönleber is located on the Nahe River – a region often overshadowed by the Mosel and Rheingau, but one that boasts vineyards of exceptional quality. Their Grand Cru wines from the Halenberg and Auf der Ley vineyards regularly set new standards: mineral, precise, with an aging potential spanning decades.
