Guado al Tasso Matarocchio 3.0 l Antinori
A single-varietal Cabernet Franc from Tuscany—that's rare enough to warrant attention. The Matarocchio from Guado al Tasso demonstrates what this grape variety is capable of when given the space it deserves.
The Guado al Tasso winery belongs to the Antinori family and is located in the Bolgheri DOC on the Tuscan coast. The mild Mediterranean climate and the mineral-rich soils of this Maremma appellation give Cabernet Franc a ripeness that is hardly achievable in cooler climates. The Matarocchio is the varietal counterpart to the estate's renowned Bolgheri Superiore—concentrated on a single grape variety that unfolds its full potential here.
The nose reveals aromas of dark plum and blackberry, underpinned by mint and a hint of chili pepper. With a little aeration, roasted coffee and bitter cocoa emerge—a typical depth characteristic of well-aged barriques. On the palate, it is full-bodied and long, with silky tannins and a lingering finish where mint and cocoa reappear.
The generous drinking window makes the 3.0-liter magnum the ideal bottle for cellaring: drinkable now, but still several years away from its peak. Serving temperature 17–18 °C.
